    What You'll Do Here:

    As a Senior Software Engineer at Cengage, you'll serve as the designated Senior Technical Specialist helping to provide technical leadership in the design, delivery and maintenance of integration solutions that support Cengage's Global Technology Solutions (GTS) architecture strategy and vision. Working closely with functional and technical representatives from multiple internal teams and organizations, you'll help to refine requirements and establish efficient, scalable and easily supportable integration solution designs, while also overseeing the development and delivery of those solutions. Leveraging extensive knowledge and experience in working with a broad range of technologies used in integrating systems and solutions, you'll demonstrate a good grasp of the architectural concepts, while communicating clearly and effectively to coordinate, guide and influence multiple teams to gain consensu and reach agreement around the most effective solutions.

     

    Responsibilties:

    Ensure Alignment

    • Develop understanding for enterprise’s overall strategy and the underlying business models.
    • Collaborate with the GTS Enterprise Architecture team to develop integration strategies and standard methodologies.
    • Evangelize the chosen Integration Strategy and vision by communicating it at all levels of the organization,  ensuring alignment.

    Define and Design

    • Rationalize integration requirements to build simple, efficient, scalable and supportable integration solution designs in accordance with GTS integration strategies and standard methodologies.
    • Understand all aspects of our integration services platform configuration capabilities, including changes and potential system implications.

    Ensure Delivery

    • Lead and coordinate the successful implementation and delivery of integration solutions.
    • Follow GTS defined processes and utilize prescribed tools to detail progress with the GTS software engineering process.
    • Develop and execute integration test plans.
    • Partner with operations, infrastructure teams and integration solution providers to maintain required levels of performance and availability for integration services.
    • Provide support assistance as needed for mission-critical integration problems and issues.

    Collaborate and Communicate

    • Maintain high-level familiarity with other IT system/business application capabilities in order to make recommendations about potential upstream/downstream integration or functionality.

    Lead by Example

    • Act as mentor to peers and less expert developers regarding integration tools and practices.

    Skills You Will Need Here:

    • 5+ years of experience with the following: developing Java programs and applications, Agile SW and/or waterfall development experience, and technical implementation, day-to-day operations, and long-term maintenance of enterprise technology solutions.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or an equivalent combination of education and recent, meaningful work experience.
    • Strong working knowledge of SOA and current integration development practices, concepts and technologies (SOAP, WSDL, REST, JSON, XML, XSD, XSLT, XPath, XQuery, JMS).
    • Experience with an integration middleware platform.
    • Experience in working with relational databases and SQL development.
    • Experience with JIRA and Confluence a plus.
    • Experience with Oracle WebLogic, Oracle Service Bus and Oracle Enterprise Manager a plus.
    • Good technical acumen and familiarity with broad variety of technology disciplines and processes.
    • Strong problem solving and analysis skills.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills.
    • Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment while prioritizing and simultaneously working on multiple projects and priorities.
    • Ability to translate functional requirements and specifications into technical specifications and solution designs.
    • Ability to work and deliver under tight deadlines.
