    Are we right for you?

We set the bar higher by bringing our unique talents and points of view to the table every day. We're curious and comfortable with change and are willing to take risks to transform education for the better. Most importantly, we put learning first with everything we do. We also offer a fun, challenging, and rewarding environment with the opportunity to work with some of the most talented people in our industry.

    What You'll Do Here:

As a Java Software Engineer, you'll contribute to the future of interactive learning systems, helping to develop our next-generation educational platform using cutting-edge technologies. Working collaboratively with our product development team, you'll work on all stages of the software development life cycle.

    • Work with Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions across a full-stack of development tools and technologies.
    • Work closely with Product Management to translate requirements into high-quality products.
    • Participate in peer code reviews, knowledge sharing, and assist other engineers in their work.
    • Continuously improve software engineering practices and standards.
    • Study new technologies and bring fresh ideas that can benefit the project.

    Skills You Will Need Here:

    Required:

    • BS in Computer Science (or equivalent work experience)
    • 2+ years experience as a software engineer.
    • Good knowledge of Java, ideally with experience using Java 8 and up
    • Experience working with build tools such as Maven
    • Good understanding of version control systems (Git)
    • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills and strong attention to details
    • Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal
    • Ability to work independently

    Desired:

    • Previous experience delivering products using Agile development practices (CI, TDD, Scrum)
    • Working knowledge of OSGI Java
    • Working knowledge of Apache Cassandra

Note about Work Authorization: Cengage is currently in the process of merging with McGraw-Hill (pending US DOJ review). This is great news for both companies (our CEO will be heading up the merged entity), however, it also means that for now, we are unable to make any commitments for visa transfers or future visa sponsorships--at least until after the merger is complete (since any visas we'd transfer would need to be transferred to the new entity, something we're unable to commit to until the new entitity has been formed). Currently, the merger is anticipated to be completed by early 2021.
