    What You'll Do Here:

    Cengage is seeking a Senior CloudOps Engineer to develop solutions, lead projects, and provide consultative assistance to application teams in leveraging automation and monitoring tools for continuous improvement of application infrastructure, provisioning, and monitoring.  In this role you will help develop, implement, and continuously improve our use of monitoring tools, including CloudWatch, LogicMonitor, AppNeta, Splunk, DynaTrace, and OpsGenie. You will also help to implement CloudOps best practices for our application teams, assiting them with rolling out and engaging these processes.



    • Lead and collaborate with virtual teams defining and implementing solutions with external and internal cloud services features such as auto-scaling, elastic load balancing, instance right-sizing, disaster recovery strategies, and tiered storage
    • Assist with the development and implementation of security best practices and initiatives at all levels of the cloud infrastructure
    • Act as second level engineering support for incidents, understanding technical interdependencies for end-to-end problem solving, engaging third party tier-1 support organization, as well as application teams and our cloud services and SaaS providers for troubleshooting and problem solving                                        
    • Refine and implement methods and solutions for monitoring and controlling spend for platforms in the cloud                                                  
    • Ensure maximum uptime of cloud hosted environments, including production, staging, testing, authoring, and development environments.
    • Support multiple Splunk Enterprise clusters with Ansible automation scripts and assist developers in creating searches and dashboards.    

    Skills You Will Need Here:


    • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Engineering (or equivalent combination of education and recent, relevant work experience).
    • 3+ years supporting customer facing systems/web applications.

    • 2+ years working with production hosting using Amazon Web Services.
    • AWS Certifications preferred.

    Technical Competencies:

    • Broad understanding and experience implementing and supporting Amazon Web Services cloud technology, deployment processes, and hosting.
    • Technical leadership-level experience with monitoring and alert management tools (we use CloudWatch, DynaTrace, Splunk, OpsGenie).
    • Experience supporting Atlassian Collaboration Suite would be a plus (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, Crowd).
    • Familiarity with git version control.
    • Expertise with Linux (RedHat and Amazon Linux distros); Apache & Tomcat web application environments; Ansible/Puppet configuration management tools and concepts (we currentlly use Puppet, but are moving to Ansible);
    • Familiarity with CloudFormation, Terraform and Harness.io deployment automation tools and methods.
    • Hands-on experience with AWS CLI, scripting in Bash/Shell, Python, Go or similar.
    • Technical leadership experience in: designing, implementing, automating, maintaining, migrating, tuning, administering, supporting, and problem solving in complex server environments.
    • Able to work collaboratively with applications, network and systems teams to resolve problems.
    • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills, with ability to translate business requirements into usable information systems solutions.
