Working in a highly reciprocal, multi-functional Agile environment, the Engineering Manager owns all aspects of delivery for the Student and Instructor dashboards where Cengage users access their digital courseware and partner offerings. Working closely with our Learning Platform, Partner, Analytics and Commerce teams, this person will lead initiatives that are cornerstone to a vastly innovative and exciting roadmap. This role is deeply technical, requiring a mixture of architectural savviness, operational expertise in a cloud setting as well as the ability to mark and communicate plans, lead risks and deliver to schedule.

 

What You'll Do Here:

Manager, Software Engineering for Cengage Learning, Inc. in Mason, OH to own all aspects of delivery for the Student and Instructor dashboards where Cengage users access their digital courseware and partner offerings. Work closely with our Learning Platform, Partner, Analytics and Commerce team and lead initiatives that are cornerstone to a vastly innovative and exciting roadmap. Mark and communicate plans, mitigate risks, and deliver to schedule. Collaborate with internal stakeholders and agile development teams to build new features based on business requirements. Work with partners to establish and handle product backlogs, product estimates, and budgets. Maximize performance in a cloud environment, work towards continuous delivery, and  guarantee uptime. Engage with architects and tech leads to drive design decisions, look for opportunities to improve the platform, and continue to service-level customers that require backward compatibility. Perform coding, as necessary, support the rigor behind code reviews, and participate in code reviews to ensure proper coverage and standard methodologies Work across complex enterprise systems to enhance current processes and procedures while ensuring validity of enterprise data. 

Skills You Will Need Here:

Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Information Technology or a related field (or foreign education equivalent) plus three (3) years of experience designing in Java. Or, alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Information Technology or a related field (or foreign education equivalent) plus five (5) years of experience designing in Java.

 

Candidate must also possess: Demonstrated Expertise (“DE”) planning, defining scope, and designing eCommerce solutions using WebSphere Commerce Suite; DE conducting QA testing, security testing, load testing, soak testing and integration testing for WebSphere Commerce solutions; DE upgrading Websphere Commerce Suite (WCS) and Websphere Application Server (WAS); DE providing production support and coordinating interim releases; and DE in the application development life cycle, and engaging in project management activities.
