What You'll Do Here:

The Marketing Communications Manager will develop content for Higher Education marketing campaigns as well as manage external events.


The Marketing Communications Manager contributes to the success of the Higher Education group by:

  • Developing easy to understand, true to brand marketing communications content for promotions, websites, social media, corporate information, white papers and PR
  • Managing external events / trade shows for brand positioning, lead generation and ROI


Objectives and Tasks:


  • Provide content for effective, targeted, innovative promotions including emails, print, web, CMS, social media, white papers, PR/media campaigns and presentations.
  • Work collaboratively with Product Marketing Managers and Digital Marketing Manager to implement promotions as planned.
  • Project manage print and digital promotions. Ensure promotional activities are delivered in line with planning, on time, in budget and in a professional manner.
  • Lead product launches for product-specific market penetration.
  • Work with Digital Marketing Manager on Call-To-Action driven copy for email and web.
  • Work with Product Marketing and Portfolio Managers to ensure content in systems accurately reflects product information
  • Work with Digital Marketing Manager to respond to Return on Investment and analytics on promotions and work to continually improve results through A/B testing and analytics.
  • Ensure all content used for promotional materials is accurate, appropriate and consistent with Cengage branding guidelines and adheres to copyright laws, including social media.
  • Plan and book involvement at major external conferences. Manage presence to best represent brand and products and maximize lead generation.
  • Build attendance and engagement through marketing communications prior to and during conferences. 
  • Work with Marketing team members to ensure correct items are dispatched to all conferences / events.
  • Maintain consistent and powerful branding across all conferences.
  • Work closely and collaborate effectively with the Digital Marketing Manager and Product Marketing Managers to ensure successful and effective campaigns.
  • Work with all team members to set and execute the editorial direction, design, production and distribution of all collateral. 
  • Communicate effectively and appropriately with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Communicate and liaise with colleagues in other functional areas.
  • Attend work-in-progress meetings and report on the status of specific projects / campaigns.
  • Attend regular team meetings.
  • Share information and knowledge with colleagues.
  • Supports Continual Improvement processes throughout the entire project and during the audit process.
  • Seek opportunities to enhance documentation, processes and supported systems to improve processes and procedures.
  • Keep abreast with the continual changes in your field of expertise including any digital and technology developments. Share knowledge with manager and team.
  • Actively seek opportunities to extend and enhance personal knowledge and skills in order to better support customers and colleagues

Skills You Will Need Here:

  • Post-secondary degree (or similar) in Marketing, Communications, English or Media / Journalism
  • Proven experience in developing content and copy writing in B2B marketing
  • Proven record of strong problem solving, project management, and analytical skills
  • Success with development and implementation of strategies 
  • Financial management skills for use in ad promo plan development and management 
  • Strong computer skills including word processing software, email, spreadsheets, databases, networks, and the Internet
  • Familiarity with design and creative software 
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Adobe Pro) and/or Web design package (Flash, Dreamweaver, Fireworks) is a plus
