The Director of Business Systems for Cengage Canada is an important role that connects Cengage Canada business needs with Cengage central systems and local transitional systems. The position includes partnering with local business leaders and central GTS leaders to develop a strategy for data management, flow, integrity, migration, and usage across business systems. The candidate must have be able to collaborate with partners across functions and regions, including product, technology, finance, marketing, and sales teams, to ensure successful usage and implementation of systems.

What You'll Do Here:

  • Chart existing business processes in order to define current business activities for the development of procedures and models
  • Review and analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of existing processes and develop strategies for enhancing or further using these processes
  • Identify needs and solutions across business system processes, data management, flows and reporting
  • Prototype new procedures for the purpose of improving business processes, operations, and information process flow
  • Oversight and support for Cengage Canada’s utilization of the following (non-exclusive) list of systems: CRM (Magellan, Salesforce), Marketing (Eloqua, PIM), ERP (JDE, E1), Royalties (Alliant, Fadel), BI (Cognos.)
  • Partner with GTS to ensure that every system implementation roll out is well planned and executed, including appropriate testing, user training, and post-implementation support
  • Efficiently trouble shoot issues and drive towards a resolution
  • Ensure effective and accurate logging of technical issues and new business needs
  • Optimize the functional areas of data management, contacts, leads, campaigns, opportunities, quotes, orders, contracts, and cases
  • Stay ahead of technology changes within Cengage and understand the impact on Cengage Canada
  • Communicate process changes, improvements, and modifications – verbally or through written documentation – to Cengage Canada employees
  • Partner with business leaders to address strategic business issues and build plans to apply appropriate technology solutions
  • Maintain effective communications on a regular basis with key partners across the organization including the product, technology, marketing, sales groups regarding progress on projects, performance and potential business risks

Skills You Will Need Here:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of successful experience
  • Experience with publishing industry is strongly preferred
  • Strategic mentality, ability to prioritize and achieve goals in a highly competitive and changing environment.
  • Excellent big picture/critical thinking skills, ability to translate into tactical initiatives and objectives.
  • Excellent communications skills to deal effectively with all levels of decision-makers in both customer organizations and Cengage.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to synthesize information so that it can be translated back to the organization in a simple manner.
  • Ability to plan and set priorities based on information from various sources, including product, marketing, sales, and technology.
