What You'll Do Here:

  • Evolve the technology foundation and pioneer solutions that enable the business to further transform the way people learn, including defining, owning, and leading cross-functional efforts to analyze, identify, define, and execute on business system and infrastructure needs that will enable and support the evolution of the Higher Education business.
  • Make and enable decisions that will move Higher Ed forward while understanding the associated business risks and implications for all other stakeholders (Platform, Marketing, Sales, Finance, Legal, HR, Engineering, Architects etc.), including: analysis of Internal Business Customer, including workflows, needs, value drivers, decision making process, and unstated intent and goals, and identify key users who will drive or enable business growth; analyze the role of the systems they use and how emerging technology can enable their drivers and goals; analysis of the market, products, major course areas, competitors, and route to market; analysis of our business context – mission, strategy, competitive differentiators, activations, sell through, sources of activations growth, business resources; and analysis of and articulate the Higher Ed strategy and how that work translates to the day to day operation of Higher Ed.
  • Balance the 'reusability/scale' considerations with decisions that deliver value for the specific priority discipline/program at hand, and manage technology risk, debt, and non-functional requirements.
  • Lead cross-functionally at all levels, including push information and drive understanding of the strategy and path of execution, maintain an open and updated and prioritized backlog that has a clearly understandable set of user intent / value stories, and analyze and own decisions that impact other Cengage stakeholders and users.
  • Analyze our systems and architecture to determine how they impact our decision-making process as well as the overall business technology roadmap and how the business operates (i.e. macro business processes), and communicate vision, strategy, and business value effectively to technical team and stakeholders.
  • Own and lead the digital delivery process, including analyzing the overall process and their role in the ‘idea to build’ process; manage, prioritize and execute on the program roadmap through detailed requirements and cross functional communication with Engineering, Architecture, QA, TSPs, and other Technology Solution Partner team members; invest in planning build cycles; communicate vision, strategy, and business value effectively to program team and stakeholders.
  • Define, execute, and deliver on technology solutions to business problems, including maintaining a documented articulation of 'the why' and ensure that the user imperative and goal of each requirement is understood by the team and relevant stakeholders; manage and groom backlog, with sufficient lead time for team to plan the work; deliver planned roadmap value; and manage interdependencies across teams.

Skills You Will Need Here:


  • Master's degree in Operations Management, Finance, Business Administration, Engineering or a related field (willing to accept foreign education equivalent) plus three years of experience conducting financial modeling in emerging market, or, alternatively, a Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Finance, Business Administration, Engineering or a related field (willing to accept foreign education equivalent) and five years of experience as stated above.
  • Candidate must also possess: Demonstrated Expertise (“DE”) leading strategic initiatives in fundamental analysis in an emerging market; DE performing data analysis using KPIs to support actionable recommendations to drive profitability; DE performing data analysis of market trends and preparing industry research reports; and DE performing financial planning and analysis including budgeting and forecasting.
