What You'll Do Here:

As part of a high-performance team, the Production Coordinator (PC) is responsible for overseeing the production of high-quality content by authors, editors, vendors, and subject matter experts (SMEs) for use in digital and print products; having content finished, which includes managing copyediting and composition; delivering final content to digital production; and overseeing the creation of print-ready and digital-ready files. The Production Coordinator works collaboratively with various internal and external stakeholders to ensure content for assigned projects meets requirements and is delivered on schedule.


Project Management​ (Print and Digital)

  • Create and manage production schedule​
  • Prepare content for authoring​ or asset creation
  • Gather authoring and editing guidelines​
  • Manage author and vendor timelines and deliverables ​for all sourcing, finishing, and print and digital production activities
  • Request and manage vendor quotes​
  • Create and manage QA schedule 
  • Communicate project updates to project stakeholders
  • Ensure ISBNs are assigned​
  • Manage IPS workflow stage changes ​
  • Performs quality checks on print and digital content
  • Work with Content Manager to complete the Service Provider Performance Survey at conclusion of a project


Content Production​ (Print and Digital)

  • Manage author and vendor timelines and deliverables ​for all sourcing, finishing, and print and digital production activities
  • Obtain necessary permissions​
  • Manages the creation of alt text for digital content
  • Transmit materials to production vendor ​
  • Submit final content to compositor ​
  • Review formatting of sample pages ​
  • Prepare Front and End Matter​
  • Prepare and manage all print specs and cover mechanicals​
  • Secure and review Alt Text report​
  • Secure and review closed captioning for digital assets
  • Build course following accepted templates, processes, and standards
  • Tag and post all files in Alfresco using guidelines from Creative Art Director ​
  • Provide necessary content to Digital Production Coordinator ​
  • Archive content ​
  • Tag and post all files in Alfresco or Cengage preferred art repository
  • Resolve reprint corrections, binding changes, and manufacturing defects ​
  • Manage ongoing maintenance, corrections, and updates

Skills You Will Need Here:

  • Develops a clear understanding of the Cengage ethos and embodies these attributes
  • Self-starter with demonstrated ability to work independently and remotely while retaining accountability
  • Results oriented with a demonstrated bias toward action
  • Associate’s Degree
  • Minimum 1 year of work experience, preferably in an office setting
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills, including familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), Adobe Acrobat, and file-transfer tools
  • Consultative, cooperative, solutions-oriented, and service-minded perspective
  • Strong project management and organizational skills; the ability to successfully manage multiple projects and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Ability to collaborate and work effectively and efficiently in a team environment


  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Familiarity with content formats (HTML, XML) and product platforms
  • Database experience
  • Knowledge of ADA compliance
  • Possesses experience with sourcing and evaluating a variety of content types, including interactive content (assessment, video, interactive assets)
